About the role

A Heavy Highway Construction Signal Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing traffic signals and related systems on highways and other roadways.

Responsibilities

  • Install new traffic signals and maintain existing ones, including wiring, cabling, and other components; troubleshoot and repair issues as they arise.
  • Set up temporary traffic control devices and barricades in compliance with state and federal regulations; direct traffic during construction or maintenance activities.
  • Keep detailed records of all work performed, including maintenance, repairs, installations, accidents, incidents, or other issues.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and regulations when working on or near highways and roadways, including wearing personal protective equipment and adhering to traffic control plans.
  • Communicate effectively with construction workers, engineers, project managers, drivers, and pedestrians.
  • Train other construction workers on traffic control and safety procedures.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with construction or maintenance of traffic signals, including wiring and knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with traffic control regulations and procedures, including Georgia Uniform Traffic Code.
  • Ability to operate a bucket truck, boom truck, concrete saw, lashing machine, and specialized test equipment (e.g., multimeter, loop analyzer, locator, controller tester).
  • Proficient in reading plans and diagrams.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license; CDL-A is a plus.
  • IMSA Traffic Signal Level I Certification required.
  • Electrical License is a plus.
  • Must maintain a valid medical card if holding a CDL driver’s license.
  • Certifications in Bucket Truck/Aerial Lift, fall protection, trencher, excavation, and utility damage prevention.

Physical Requirements

  • Rare: Sitting, kneeling, crawling, climbing stairs.
  • Occasional: Stooping, squatting, climbing on/off truck, climbing ladders, pushing, reading, lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent: Carrying, pulling, balancing, body-twisting, hearing/speech range, lifting up to 10 lbs., manual dexterity, speaking clearly, walking.
  • Continuous: Standing, sense of touch, gripping, seeing, reaching, range-of-motion, depth perception, lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs.
  • Color vision required.
