About the role

An Operator operates several types of power construction equipment—such as compressors, pumps, hoists, derricks, cranes, shovels, tractors, dozers, scrapers, motor graders, and off-road rock trucks—to excavate, move, and grade earth. Responsibilities include turning valves to control air and water output, adjusting controls to operate attachments, and performing repairs and maintenance on equipment.

Ames is seeking Scraper Operators with experience on CAT SCRAPER 613 up to but not excluding 637. GPS Trimble knowledge is a plus. Operator Apprentices are also encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Operate track equipment in all phases of operations, including normal conditions, night conditions, adverse weather, and emergencies using hand and foot controls.
• Perform routine maintenance and monitor gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure proper equipment function.
• Exercise good judgment regarding the safety and health of yourself and others.
• Complete and understand necessary paperwork for the job.
• Follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
• Work collaboratively with others and independently on assigned tasks.
• Maintain good housekeeping in the cab and work area.
• Accurately complete daily timecards and other required paperwork.
• Repair and maintain equipment as needed.

Requirements

• Be committed to working safely and wearing all required safety equipment.
• Report any unsafe conditions or acts to your immediate supervisor.
• Pass a pre-employment drug screen and alcohol test.
• Be free of medication that may limit or alter the ability to operate equipment safely.
• Be able to read and understand safety and employment requirements.
• Be dependable and consistent about attendance and punctuality.
• Willing and able to work extended hours, nights, and weekends as required.
• Tolerate temperature extremes and changing job site conditions (rain, snow, heat, cold, etc.).
• Commit to achieving a 100% no-accident work area.
• Support the team to achieve production goals at any assigned task.
• Maintain a professional attitude while learning each task and accept constructive criticism.
• Join and maintain local operators' union membership (Arizona region).

Minimum Physical Requirements

• Full range of motion with neck, back, and hands, and ability to exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously.
• Vision at 20/40 with or without corrective lenses.
• Ability to hear at an average level with or without hearing devices.
• Ability to climb in/out of equipment without assistance.
• Ability to walk on uneven surfaces.
• Ability to twist, stoop, and bend while maintaining sure-footedness and balance.
• Spend about 80% of your time in motion while operating equipment.
