About the role

Facilities Management is seeking a skilled heavy equipment operator II to join their team. The position involves the proficient handling of various machinery, including backhoes, excavators, motor graders, skid steels, and yard cranes for loading and unloading materials. Operators are also responsible for using loaders for backfilling ditches and loading trucks, forklifts, and sky tracs for material handling, and dump trucks and tractor-trailer combinations, all while adhering to DOT specifications for load security.

Responsibilities

  • Safe operation of backhoes, excavators, motor graders, skid steels, and yard cranes
  • Using loaders to backfill ditches and load trucks, forklifts, and sky tracs for material handling
  • Operating dump trucks and tractor-trailer combinations
  • Maintaining man lifts for tree trimming and flagpole repairs
  • Operating street sweepers and snow removal equipment like plow trucks and sand spreaders
  • Worksite preparation and maintenance involving cleaning up areas post-completion and picking up litter
  • Maintaining a positive work atmosphere by promoting effective teamwork and cooperation
  • Supporting projects with routine labor
  • Removing and busting out concrete while following silica guidelines
  • Forming, pouring, and finishing concrete for streets, sidewalks, and curbs
  • Repairing and replacing asphalt surfaces
  • Hand digging to expose utilities
  • Hand dressing grounds for final grading and drainage
  • Installing French drains and surface drains
  • Working rotating shifts, including holidays for snow and ice removal
  • Operating lawn mowers and tractors on slopes
  • Assisting with landscape tasks
  • Installing signs in streets, parking lots, and buildings
  • Placing bumper blocks in parking lots
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before the agreed-upon start date)
  • Three years of experience operating heavy equipment in the construction or agriculture industries
  • A valid driver's license (must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle)
  • Class A CDL before hire

Qualifications

  • Must work safely, adhere to all safety requirements, and promote a safe work environment
  • Ability to become proficient in the use of "AIM" Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology
  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral instructions
  • Exposure to extreme heat and cold, working around hazardous equipment, and exposure to high levels of dust and noise

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge

  • Ability to work safely and promote a safe work environment
  • Proficiency in the use of "AIM" Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and mobile technology
  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral instructions
  • Experience working outside in all types of inclement weather, high levels of dust and noise, and around hazardous equipment
