About the role

The Heavy Equipment Operator supports site development and excavation activities by operating various heavy equipment. This role involves assisting with daily excavation tasks, such as trenching, backfilling/tamping, and grading. The operator must adhere to project specifications and safety policies, and assist with manual labor tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently operate excavators, track loaders, dozers, skid loaders, backhoes, rollers, tampers, jack hammers, demolition saws, pumps, and pressure washers.
  • Operate company vehicles, material handlers, scissor lifts, dump trucks, rental equipment, towing trailers, and compressors.
  • Perform manual labor tasks on site when necessary.
  • Assist other operators and laborers by shoveling trenches, light utility work, and removing hazards.
  • Ensure proper installation and maintenance of E&S control measures.
  • Absorb company assets and materials between work sites and storage.
  • Identify and report machinery/equipment maintenance issues to the Site Foreman and Superintendent.
  • Organize and maintain site storage trailers, equipment, and storage yards.
  • Assist with snow removal on construction sites and other properties as directed.
  • Support the Foreman/Superintendent in maintaining safety, scheduling, and delivery of material.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License, automobile insurance, and reliable transportation.
  • 3-5 years’ experience operating heavy equipment for site work.
  • Able to safely and efficiently operate the following equipment without supervision: excavator (full size & mini), track loader, dozer, skid loader, backhoe, roller.
  • Experience with trench boxes and proper trench benching/sloping in compliance with safety requirements.
  • Proven knowledge of proper shoring techniques.
  • Experience with installing and testing water lines, sewer lines, and dry utilities.
  • Utilizes GPS proficiently within assigned equipment.
  • Proven ability to lead by example and work alongside crews when needed.
  • Safe and efficient operation of equipment without supervision.
  • Proven ability to complete time sheets and other company documentation via mobile device.
