Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems on heavy equipment such as forklifts, manlifts, hostlers, reach stackers, front and side loaders, cranes, etc.
- Perform detailed equipment inspections and preventative maintenance following OEM specifications.
- Use diagnostic tools and service manuals to accurately assess equipment condition and repair needs.
- Complete work orders, inspection reports, and maintenance records with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Perform welding or fabrication repairs as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and properly store tools and equipment.
- Respond to emergency breakdowns in the field or yard as needed and maintain a high sense of urgency on customer related requests.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, operators, and other team members regarding equipment status and required repairs and adhere to all company-wide policies to eliminate and/or reduce exposure to liability.
- Ensure compliance in all safety, health, and environmental regulations, policies and procedures for a goal of zero incidents and injuries.
- Aid in delivering required training to ensure that all co-workers have the necessary skills to perform their jobs properly and safely.
- Participate in special projects or other work as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 3+ years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic or diesel technician, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining heavy equipment such as forklifts, manlifts, hostlers, reach stackers, front and side loaders, cranes, etc.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean motor vehicle record (MVR)
- Mechanical aptitude with a strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems and the ability to effectively troubleshoot in these areas.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, electrical and hydraulic schematics, and diagnostic codes
- Basic welding and fabrication skills
- Willingness to work after hours call outs.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs., climb, bend, and work in the presence of loud machinery in various outdoor conditions and at elevated heights.
- Ability to understand and abide by all Company and Railroad safety policies.
- Ability to recognize all colors in a normal spectrum.
- A full complement of industry-standard tools.
