Heavy Equipment & Diesel Mechanic

About the role

Location: Richmond, VA. Job Type: Direct Hire. Pay: Starting at $23.00/hour, with higher pay available depending on experience. Travel: Up to 50% (including out of state).

We are hiring an experienced Heavy Equipment & Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and other motorized equipment. Candidates must be available 24/7 for emergency repairs and willing to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and other motorized equipment
• Follow daily work assignments and safety instructions from the Shop Foreman
• Ensure tools and parts are available to minimize equipment downtime
• Complete work orders accurately, documenting mileage, operating hours, and repairs
• Communicate emergency repair needs to the Shop Foreman and prioritize assigned work
• Maintain an organized work area and equipment
• Collaborate with the team to complete repairs on schedule and perform other assigned duties

Requirements

• At least 5 years of heavy equipment, trailer, or crane maintenance experience
• At least 5 years of experience in two additional technical areas, such as hydraulics, electronics, or small engines
• High school diploma/GED and trade school or equivalent training in diesel mechanics
• Two years of technical or vocational training and five years of hands-on repair experience
• Professional certifications related to heavy equipment maintenance and repair
• Valid driver's license and good driving record
• Ability to use computers, communicate effectively, stay organized, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
• Ability to read, write, and speak English
• Available 24/7 for emergency assignments and able to travel up to 50%, including out of state

Physical Requirements

• Frequent bending, twisting, stooping, walking, and lifting
• Ability to work extended hours and in varying weather conditions
• Regularly lift up to 50 lbs; assistance is required for items weighing over 75 lbs
