About the role

We are seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanical SVC Apprentice to join our team. This role provides training to repair and maintain both diesel and gasoline powered class 5 through 8 Heavy trucks, as well as various trailers.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all policies, procedures, and values of Snider Fleet Solutions.
  • Use hand tools in a safe manner.
  • Read work orders, observe, and listen to supervisor instructions to diagnose and address malfunctions.
  • Diagnose and repair or replace faulty parts under supervision, including electrical, electronic, and emissions-related fault codes.
  • Perform basic repairs on components such as PM Inspection, Brake job, Brake chamber and slack adjuster replacement, Wheel seal replacement, and wheel end adjustment (RP618B).
  • Trace open or shorted circuits.
  • Willingness to learn and repair minor wreck damage with supervision.
  • Examine system parts for damage, wear, and safety devices.
  • Install new parts such as cross members, panels, posts, rails, door equipment, lighting, wiring, brakes, valves, airlines, wheel end components, suspension components, landing gear, frame assembly, roof, roof bows, and other parts under supervision.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation.
  • Lubricate moving parts such as drive line components, hinges, suspension, and steering system components.
  • Work well with others and follow supervisor's instructions.
  • Show willingness to advance in the mechanical field by taking advantage of training and instructional materials.
  • Assist with shop workflow and branch operations.
  • Demonstrate excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Follow all safety rules and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
  • No prior experience required.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Ability to obtain Federal Annual and Brake Inspector certification after hire.
  • Commercial TIA certification required after six months of employment.
  • DOT Medical Certification.

Qualifications

  • Basic computer and/or smart phone skills.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic equipment (OEM, aftermarket, or applicable, as determined by manufacturer).
  • Basic understanding of VMRS codes and TMC recommended practices.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with close attention to detail.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to pass background check and drug screen.
  • Safety-conscious at all times.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of Maintenance Related Software order processing systems.
