Job Description
The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) State Equipment Fleet is seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanic-Rural ARFF- Advanced Journey to assist in keeping Alaska moving. Qualified applicants may inquire about paid training to obtain their CDL.
What You Will Be Doing
Professionally maintain all heavy-duty and light-duty equipment and vehicles associated with the construction and maintenance of secondary roads, rural airports, and other user agency vehicles. Resolve unusual or complex equipment problems through various techniques and methods. Perform routine and specialized repair and maintenance on a variety of heavy equipment, including diagnosing, maintaining, repairing, and modifying systems such as transmissions, drive trains, suspension, engine and emission, fuel injection, hydraulic systems, and brake systems.

The Working Environment
This position is based at the Yakutat Airport, with occasional travel to remote locations via small planes. The work involves addressing a wide range of transportation needs in Alaska's diverse and challenging terrain, contributing to infrastructure development and maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications
Vacancies are filled through union referral, except for promotions, demotions, transfers, and emergency appointments. The job class is part of a competency-based series, identifying core and specific competencies, required work behaviors, certifications, and physical requirements.
Additional Required Information
At the time of interview, candidates must provide a copy of their Class A CDL, three professional references, and documentation of a successful Pre-Employment drug test. Employees are required to provide their own hand tools and receive a bi-weekly tool allowance as per LTC contract. Firearms use is permitted, but candidates with a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence conviction are ineligible for this position.
