Heavy Duty Mechanic

Description

Minimum Requirements:

• Light welding experience
• GED and/or equivalent combination of experience
• Must become a member of the ILWU local 142
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

Preferred Requirements:

• Mechanic certification from an accredited program (ASE diesel mechanic or equivalent)
• CDL Class B license, valid DOT medical card and acceptable driving record
• 4+ years experience working on heavy equipment

Duties And Responsibilities

General overhauls of plant equipment such as crushers, screens, feeders and batching plants; rebuilds equipment components and trouble shoots.

Diagnose malfunctions and based on findings repairs, adjusts, and maintains equipment.

May perform the duties of other mechanics or welder.

Uses hand and power tools common to their trade such as wrenches, hammers, hoists, drills, grinders, feeler gauges, indicators, component testing equipment, etc.

Drives pickup and tests equipment as necessary.

Serves (cleans, oils, and lubes) equipment, plant compressor, pumps and meters.

Follows established procedures in preparing necessary reports, requisitions, etc.

Aids other tradesmen with repairs.

Oversees the work of trades helpers, other mechanics or welders, and other tradesmen where their assistance is needed.

Performs night shift work and other related duties as required.

Must have a working knowledge in repair, parts and operation of above equipment.

Always work safely and take action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors.

Performs other duties as assigned.
