Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic

About the role

Knife River is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our Missoula division. The position requires working independently and as part of a team, often in extreme weather conditions. The ideal candidate will have a qualified driving record, experience with heavy equipment repair, and their own tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform significant maintenance on all types of equipment, and assist with repairs and improvements.
• Safely operate various equipment including standard to specialty tools, torches, welders, hoists, forklifts, and other heavy equipment.
• Troubleshoot equipment maintenance issues, diagnose parts and components, and determine necessary repairs.
• Read, interpret, and analyze technical manuals and schematics.
• Anticipate necessary parts and supplies for orders, and fabricate parts when needed.
• Maintain a safety-minded attitude, accurately complete shop forms, keep work areas tidy, and comply with regulatory standards.
• Communicate effectively with others within and outside the company, handle multiple projects, and maintain deadlines and attention to detail.
• Operate company vehicles for field service repairs.
• Provide your own basic hand tools, pneumatics, and some specialty tools.
• Work shifts that may include nights, evenings, and weekends.
• Be flexible to perform other duties assigned by the shop manager.

Requirements

Minimum qualifications include a qualified driving record, experience with heavy equipment repair, and having your own tools.

Qualifications

Must have the ability to work independently or in a team setting, be self-motivated, and have the willingness to handle multiple projects while maintaining deadlines and attention to detail.

Skills

Must possess the skills to read, interpret, and analyze technical manuals and schematics, anticipate necessary parts and supplies, and troubleshoot equipment maintenance problems.
