Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and inspections on heavy equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and technical manuals.
- Repair and replace components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Conduct welding and fabrication when necessary.
- Maintain accurate service records, logs, and documentation for all work performed.
- Operate equipment to verify repairs and ensure performance standards are met.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns in the field when needed (may include travel or on-call duty).
- Communicate repair needs, delays, or part shortages with supervisors and/or equipment operators.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of [3–5] years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Valid driver’s license (CDL may be required depending on role).
- Certification such as ASE or equivalent (preferred but not required).
- Strong understanding of safety procedures and compliance with OSHA standards.
- Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in physically demanding environments.
- Experience with computer diagnostics and repair software (e.g., CAT ET, John Deere Service Advisor, etc).
- Must be able to work in the elements.
