Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to provide advocacy work for individuals seeking disability benefits through the Social Security Administration (SSI/SSDI) programs. This position assists in fully developing claims for the Social Security Administration at the Office of Hearing Operations (OHO) and Appeals Council (AC).

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Complete pre-hearing reviews and develop files in areas including but not limited to post-onset work activity, medical opinions, and past relevant work.
  • Write pre- and post-hearing briefs as assigned, including On-the-Record (OTR) requests and responses to proffered vocational and medical expert interrogatories.
  • Review partially favorable and unfavorable ALJ decisions and recommend AC appeals.
  • Draft thorough and persuasive AC briefs.
  • Communicate effectively and compassionately with disability claimants on matters including amending alleged onset dates, withdrawing hearing requests, and other matters assigned.
  • Meet company productivity and performance standards.

Qualifications And Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum one year of experience in SSD/SSI advocacy.
  • Fluency in evaluating claims under the five-step disability adjudication process.
  • Understanding of medical terminology and vocational issues.
  • Experience in drafting OTR requests and other hearing-level briefs.
  • Experience drafting briefs for the AC.
  • Understanding of non-medical aspects of the Social Security disability practice (income/resources for SSI, past-due benefits, and representative fees).
  • Strong written and oral advocacy skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving vulnerable and underserved populations.
  • Ability to manage a high-volume caseload of pre-hearing reviews and AC briefs.
  • Collaborative mindset.

Pay

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, location, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
