Job Summary
The purpose of this position is to provide advocacy work for individuals seeking disability benefits through the Social Security Administration (SSI/SSDI) programs. This position assists in fully developing claims for the Social Security Administration at the Office of Hearing Operations (OHO) and Appeals Council (AC).
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Complete pre-hearing reviews and develop files in areas including but not limited to post-onset work activity, medical opinions, and past relevant work.
- Write pre- and post-hearing briefs as assigned, including On-the-Record (OTR) requests and responses to proffered vocational and medical expert interrogatories.
- Review partially favorable and unfavorable ALJ decisions and recommend AC appeals.
- Draft thorough and persuasive AC briefs.
- Communicate effectively and compassionately with disability claimants on matters including amending alleged onset dates, withdrawing hearing requests, and other matters assigned.
- Meet company productivity and performance standards.
Qualifications And Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum one year of experience in SSD/SSI advocacy.
- Fluency in evaluating claims under the five-step disability adjudication process.
- Understanding of medical terminology and vocational issues.
- Experience in drafting OTR requests and other hearing-level briefs.
- Experience drafting briefs for the AC.
- Understanding of non-medical aspects of the Social Security disability practice (income/resources for SSI, past-due benefits, and representative fees).
- Strong written and oral advocacy skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to serving vulnerable and underserved populations.
- Ability to manage a high-volume caseload of pre-hearing reviews and AC briefs.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, location, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
