About the role

Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks, Fort Knox is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. Fort Knox celebrated its 25-year anniversary in 2021, and has produced over 8.5 million ounces since it began operation. In 2020, Kinross acquired Manh Choh – a project expected to commence production in 2024 and process ore at Fort Knox. Fort Knox prioritizes being a strong contributor to the State and local communities, and since 2001, has helped support more than 300 community partners and has contributed more than US$25 million to the Alaska Mental Health Trust.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for repair and maintenance of pumping and piping systems
  • Designs and constructs heap leach pads including road building, piping and drip tube installation
  • Responsible for welding/fabrication projects including pipe welding
  • Performs equipment walk around, inspects and operates equipment
  • Must be willing to learn to operate heavy equipment including excavators, front-end loaders and dozers
  • Perform ground and facility maintenance including but not limited to snow removal and general cleanup
  • Perform small equipment and machine checks and repairs
  • Punctuality and regular attendance are required
  • Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management
  • Exhibits excellent teamwork skills
  • Possession of a valid driver license issued by the state
  • Work without significant risk of harm to self and others
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including but not limited to safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications and skill requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Employee must have sufficient education to read and write, perform simple mathematics, and maintain neat and accurate records
  • Experience in building, site, and shop maintenance/cleanup preferred
  • Experience operating small equipment such as forklifts, skid-steers, and loaders preferred
  • Ability to work without constant, direct supervision
  • Involves lifting and moving various materials in weights up to 50 or more pounds, climbing up and down stairs, and working in an outdoors environment
  • Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions required
  • Must have solid verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read and understand repair manuals
  • Must be available to work holidays and weekends
