About the role
The Lead Product Architect will play a pivotal role in shaping the architecture of a critical healthcare SaaS product. This position requires a deep understanding of product architecture, domain modeling, and AWS best practices, particularly in the context of HIPAA and PHI compliance.
Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture of a SaaS product through multiple major releases, making informed decisions based on cost, impact, and future-proofing.
- Defend and explain complex domain models to clinicians and operators, ensuring clarity and practicality.
- Make production calls on AWS services such as Aurora, Lambda, ElastiCache, and optimize for scalability, security, and performance.
- Design REST and FHIR APIs that handle real-world client load and integration partner scrutiny, focusing on resource modelling, versioning, and authentication.
- Write TypeScript and Node.js code, including modern React components, and manage PostgreSQL databases at scale, including Aurora Serverless.
- Write Infrastructure as Code using AWS CDK in TypeScript, Terraform, or similar tools, and ensure observability and audit readiness.
- Set technical direction, document decisions, and mentor engineers, sharing both successes and lessons learned.
- Work closely with Atlassian tools like Jira and Confluence, and leverage AI tools like Anthropic Claude for code and design reviews.
- Have experience with EHR/EMR architecture, SMART on FHIR, HL7v2 integration, ONC certification, and multi-tenant SaaS architecture.
- Ensure the system is secure, compliant with HIPAA and other regulations, and maintain high levels of reliability and availability.
Requirements
- At least one SaaS product architecture track record, including major release decisions and their costs and impacts.
- Deep expertise in domain modeling, able to distinguish between reflective and operational models and communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders.
- Expert-level command of AWS, especially in scalability, security (PHI and HIPAA), and performance optimization.
- Hands-on experience with TypeScript, Node.js, PostgreSQL, and AWS services like Lambda, API Gateway, and ElastiCache.
- Production experience with React, modern TypeScript tooling, and real-time systems like WebSocket and EventBridge.
- Experience with Atlassian tools, AI for code and design reviews, and regulatory compliance in healthcare IT.
- Strong leadership skills, setting technical direction and mentoring engineers.

Pay
$150,000 - $180,000 annually.
