About the role
Performs comprehensive Medicare/Medicaid certification surveys (initial, complaint, re-certification, validation) of Title 18 & Title 19 facilities for compliance with Federal, State, and other applicable laws and regulations for Healthcare Quality. Conducts inspections, surveys, and investigations of healthcare facilities, service providers, and/or applicants. Evaluates activities to determine the degree to which standards are carried out effectively and applies extensive knowledge of nursing techniques and patient care planning to evaluate quality of care.
Responsibilities
- Identifies conditions that do not meet standards and advises personnel to develop plans of correction.
- Completes written reports of deficiencies and submits all required documentation in a timely manner.
- Ensures all survey files are secured in accordance with HIPAA and federal/state laws.
- Meets deadlines for written correspondence, documentation, and data entry.
- Adheres to agency rules regarding forms, travel reimbursement, training, and use of state/federal resources.
- Serves as team leader for survey teams, conducting pre-survey meetings, reviewing findings, and leading entrance/exit interviews.
- Represents the team as spokesperson or liaison during surveys.
- Stays knowledgeable of all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Performs additional duties such as attending meetings, training staff, participating in hearings/trials, and assisting with disaster preparedness tasks.
- Reports to duty or remains on call 24/7 during disaster events or hazardous weather.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- Licensed as a registered nurse by the State Board of Nursing for South Carolina.
- Active South Carolina nursing license in good standing, or a valid multistate license from a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state.
- Ability to accommodate roundtrip travel of up to 4 hours and 400 miles, with overnight travel 3-4 nights per week.
- Flexible work hours, including weekends, holidays, and exceeding 8 hours per day when needed.
- Ability to bend, stoop, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds to a height/distance of up to 20 feet.
- Must pass and become SMQT (Surveyor Minimum Qualification Test) certified (5% salary increase upon certification).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health Administration, Physical Science, Natural Science, or a related field.
- Master’s degree in Nursing; or bachelor’s degree in Nursing with two years’ clinical experience as a Registered Nurse; or associate degree or diploma in Nursing with four years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse.
- Clinical experience in a Long-Term Care Facility.
- Reside within 50 miles of Columbia.
