This position assumes responsibility for the organization of the assigned department. Performs multiple clerical and receptionist duties.
- Assists in the coordination of patient admissions, transfers and discharges appropriate to the ages of the patients served to provide for a smooth and efficient flow pattern.
- Organizes and maintains Patient Medical Record according to the Medical Record Policies and Procedures
- Checks charts of patients scheduled for surgery or other special procedures to verify completeness of orders, consents, lab results, and signatures and makes copies as appropriate.
- Promptly answers patient call lights and notifies appropriate personnel of response to call light. Initiates a face to face response, when necessary.
- Communicates in a manner appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
- Utilizes the computer system independently to verify orders.
- Reviews new orders on PAL and responds to priorities promptly.
- Completes consults accurately.
- Receives and delivers information timely and accurately.
- Immediately notifies RN of diagnostic results when called to the unit.
- Reviews HUC audit form for compliance and reports any non-compliance to charge nurse and/or Director.
- Completes and maintains documentation related to unit activities including but not limited to time and attendance, patient assignment sheets, current census within acceptable standards.
- Restocks all medicine cupboards, nurse servers, and filing drawers with appropriate supplies/forms on a routine basis.
- Orders, delivers, transports, receives, and returns supplies from ancillary departments according to departmental standards accurately and timely.
- Performs efficiently in emergency situations such as code 69 and acute care transfers.
- Maintains white boards in patient rooms and nurses’ station when assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, turning, and reaching/
- Ability to lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds.
Working Environment:
- Frequent exposure to bloodborne pathogens and latex.
Skills And Abilities:
- Ability to attend to more than one aspect of a situation simultaneously.
- Efficiency in processing of verbal information, either in written or spoken form is a major requirement and prerequisite of the job.
- Some independent thought, planning or origination of options and solutions is necessary.
- Ability to apply principles of reasoning and problem solving to resolve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
