Health Unit Coordinator

About the role

As our Health Unit Coordinator (HUC), you will serve as the central administrative and communication hub for the nursing station, ensuring efficient patient flow and supportive operations. You will perform clerical and reception duties, manage supply and equipment requests, and handle admissions, discharges, and transfers. You'll maintain records, check charts, obtain documents, and process or transfer orders. You will also answer call lights and incoming calls, directing them appropriately, and may assist with medication retrieval and delivery.

Enhances the hospital experience of patients and their families through strong customer service skills and actions tailored to the specific floor, including greeting activities, patient rounding, call light response, patient and family education, and acting as a resource for certain programs. You will participate in value-added activities driven by staff, leadership, department, and patient needs, as well as administrative tasks that improve quality and core metrics, such as chart audits and compliance checks.

Follow up on physician orders and document actions taken in the medical record. Monitor the needs of nurses and physicians during examinations, treatments, and procedures, and assist in patient care with appropriate competency and training. Anticipate unit needs by ensuring all supplies and equipment are available for efficient patient care.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED (required).
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently (required).
• 3 months of related experience in an acute care setting (preferred).
• Knowledge of medical terminology and Health Unit Certification (strongly preferred).

Pay

$18.00 - $23.30 per hour.
