Health Unit Clerk | Emergency Department
Job Summary
Aid the nursing staff in providing efficient, effective, and safe patient care tailored to the patient's diagnosis and age group. Perform these tasks under the guidance of the nurse, adhering to hospital standards, unit-specific competencies, and the South Dakota Nurse Practice Act.
Essential Functions
- Complete assigned clerical activities.
- Contribute to patient care according to unit guidelines.
- Contribute to the permanent documentation of patient data.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- Prioritize and act on physician's orders promptly, as observed and evaluated.
- Accurately transcribe physician's orders as reviewed from medical records.
- Act as a receptionist and assist with admissions, discharges, and transfers of patients.
- Utilize good judgment in reporting data and providing patient care.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Additional Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification from the South Dakota Board of Nursing.
- At least 1 year of clerical experience.
- At least 1 year of medical terminology experience.
Scheduling Requirements
Requires the ability to work assigned schedules and hours as determined by the department.
Physical Requirements
Moderate physical effort - lifting up to 10 pounds constantly, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues may be possible.
