Health Technician - Telemetry
Qualifications
To qualify for this position - applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement - 07/10/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation - but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year - it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade - as required by the announcement. In this instance - you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
Specialized Experience
- Operate telemetry equipment - including transmitters - central monitoring station - running strips - validating - and invalidating alarms - setting alarms - printers - troubleshooting.
- Experience with unit routines and basic organization of the unit and is able to identify the function and purpose of various supplies and equipment.
- Independently prioritizes assignments and accomplishes objectives with minimal guidance.
- Conduct cleaning procedures - sterile technique - what constitutes contamination - and performs corrective action to be taken.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills when interacting with patients - their support systems - and all clinical team members.
Physical Requirements
- This position requires considerable walking - bending - standing - lifting - and handling of equipment and supplies.
- Requires dexterity in performing technical procedures.
- Proper body mechanics will be utilized at all times.
- The work involves long periods of moving about the unit.
- The work required regular and recurring bending - lifting - stooping - stretching - lifting - and repositioning patients or similar activities.
- The telemetry technician will be required to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 35 pounds frequently.
- The telemetry technician is expected to utilize the provided lifting/assisting equipment for safety of the veteran and staff for all lifts/assists performed.
Duties
- Performs continuous cardiac monitoring and analysis of cardiac rate - rhythm - and patterns of conduction on telemetry patients through the use of approved telemetry monitoring systems.
- Maintains accurate and timely documentation of patient data.
- Monitors for non-invasive blood pressure and continuous pulse oximetry (SpO2) alarm events.
- Labels rhythm strip with the patient's name - lead - PR QRS and QT intervals and rhythm changes.
- Admit/discharge patient in computer arrhythmia system.
- Ensure high quality information and visual display of patient tracing.
- Work closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Work Schedule
Six shifts working 7:30pm - 8:00am - one shift working 11:30pm-8:00am within a two week periodIncluding weekend and holiday rotation(Subject to change based on the needs of the facility.)
