JOB SUMMARY
The YMCA is seeking a motivated and engaging Enhance Fitness Instructor to lead group exercise classes designed for active older adults. Enhance Fitness is an evidence-based program that focuses on improving strength, flexibility, balance, and overall physical function in a fun and supportive group environment.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- At least 21 years old upon hire
- Certified in one of YUSA's Chronic Disease Programs (LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, EnhanceFitness, or Moving for Better Balance)
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications required upon hire
- Complete Foundations of Listen First, Orientation to Healthy Living, Principles of Member Health and Wellness, Wellness Center at the Y or Group Exercise at the Y, and YUSA HIPAA trainings upon hire
- Complete Intro to the Ys Cause & Culture, Y's Way to Service & Engagement, and I Hear You: Service with CARE
- Get SMART preferred
- YMCA Group Exercise Certification preferred
- Demonstrate good communication and problem solving skills along with a good understanding of the community
SPECIAL SKILLS OR EQUIPMENT REQUIRED
- Able to articulate and communicate effectively while instructing participants in proper exercise safety
- Current knowledge of exercise class structure; cueing techniques; creative choreography and exercise variety
- Positive attitude and ability to work independently
PHYSICAL AND/OR MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to conduct, demonstrate, and safely lead classes at the intensity level formatted for participants
- Effective communication and human relations skills to handle situations with people of all socioeconomic levels
- Physical stamina and agility for extended periods of time
JOB DUTIES
- Prepares room/exercise area prior to class to ensure it starts on time
- Responsible for choreography and music selection that meets YMCA guidelines
- Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct
- Maintains cleanliness of all audio equipment (mic, cd's, batteries, etc.)
- Responsible for the care, returning and storage of all class equipment
- Exercises sound judgment in relationship to class safety and injuries. Understands and follows all emergency procedures
- Engages in positive public relations with members. Role models SMART
- Attends all staff meetings, in-house trainings, demonstrations and special promotions as designated by supervisor
- Each instructor is responsible for covering his/her own class when unable to attend. Director/Coordinator is a last resort for assistance. Instructor could be replaced if they are consistently unable to meet the schedule of their class
- Instructor must collect all necessary data required for YMCA Chronic Disease Programs such as: attendance, waiver form, health history, etc.

PAY
$15.65/hr - $28.00/hr (based on qualifications)
SCHEDULE
Mid-day
