Enhanced Fitness Health Specialist Exercise Based

Job Summary

The YMCA of the Suncoast is seeking a motivated and engaging Enhance Fitness Instructor to lead group exercise classes designed for active older adults. The Enhance Fitness program focuses on improving strength, flexibility, balance, and overall physical function in a fun and supportive group environment.

Education, Training and Experience

• At least 21 years old upon hire
• Certified in one of YUSA's Chronic Disease Programs (LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, EnhanceFitness, or Moving for Better Balance)
• CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications required upon hire
• Completed additional trainings including Intro to the Ys Cause & Culture, Y's Way to Service & Engagement, and I Hear You: Service with CARE
• Must demonstrate good communication and problem-solving skills

Special Skills or Equipment Required

• Able to articulate and communicate effectively while instructing participants in proper exercise safety
• Knowledgeable about exercise class structure and cueing techniques
• Positive attitude and ability to work independently

Physical and/or Mental Requirements

• Ability to conduct, demonstrate, and safely lead classes at the intensity level suitable for participants
• Effective communication and human relations skills to handle various situations
• Physical stamina and agility for extended periods of time

Job Duties

• Prepares room/exercise area prior to class to ensure it starts on time
• Responsible for choreography and music selection that meets YMCA guidelines
• Maintains cleanliness of all audio equipment
• Responsible for the care, returning, and storage of all class equipment
• Exercises sound judgment in relationship to class safety and injuries
• Engages in positive public relations with members, role modeling SMART
• Attends all staff meetings, in-house trainings, demonstrations, and special promotions as designated by supervisor
• Each instructor is responsible for covering their own class when unable to attend
• Instructor must collect all necessary data required for YMCA Chronic Disease Programs such as attendance, waiver form, health history, etc.
