Health Services Specialist

This position is a 7-hour/day role with 184 paid days per year and the option for additional summer hours. Assigned to Karner Blue Education Center, the starting hourly pay is $32.60. Employees with LPN licensure receive an additional $4.60 per hour, while those with RN licensure receive an additional $5.30 per hour. This position is fully benefits-eligible.

About the Role

Incumbents provide standard medical care to students, including administering medications, assessing symptoms, and maintaining health records.

Responsibilities

  • Perform medical care screenings of students as directed by the School Nurse, assess symptoms, illness, or injury, and communicate findings or treatment recommendations.
  • Administer medications, provide diabetic glucose monitoring, and assist with medical equipment.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records of services, case histories, and medication inventories; ensure compliance with protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate with student guardians and staff regarding health-related needs.
  • Perform inventory counts, restock supplies, and order as needed.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or technical certificate in nursing.
  • 1 year of experience in healthcare.
  • CPR certified.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) licensure.
  • School experience preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • School health care principles, procedures, and techniques.
  • Basic medical treatment protocols, including first aid and emergency care.
  • Medical terminology and medication administration.
  • Evaluation and assessment of children and students’ behavior.
  • Health promotion, safety, and customer service principles.
  • Recordkeeping and computer software applications.
  • Applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Performing student health/physical assessments and taking vital signs.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and a clean, sanitary working environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Positions typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and seeing.
  • Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible force constantly to move objects.

Pay

Starting hourly pay is $32.60. LPN licensure adds $4.60 per hour; RN licensure adds $5.30 per hour.

Schedule

7 hours per day, 184 paid days per year, with the option for additional summer hours.
