Health & Safety Manager - Automation Solutions & Customer Sites

About the role

As the Health & Safety Manager at Valmet, you will play a critical role in ensuring health, safety, and environmental standards are upheld in Valmet's Automation Solutions group and lead HSE initiatives at customer locations. You will collaborate deeply with local and global organizations to achieve world-class HSE performance. This position can be located in Beloit, Wisconsin or Atlanta (Norcross), Georgia.

Candidate must be living and authorized to work in the US; this position is not eligible for domestic or international relocation or sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Act as the HSE Manager delivering HSE services and functional support to all Valmet operations in the United States and Canada for Customer Sites and Automation locations.
• Coordinate and implement Global/Area HSE processes and develop location-specific HSE procedures.
• Manage internal and external HSE issues and communicate with relevant stakeholders.
• Assure the quality of internally and externally shared local HSE-related documentation.
• Identify HSE risks and opportunities, proposing and communicating solutions to stakeholders.
• Drive the Locations Annual HSE improvement plan aligned with Global & Business Areas HSE Strategy, targets, and initiatives.
• Coordinate and facilitate local HSE-related training programs for Valmet employees and external workers.
• Assist managers in conducting HSE hazard and risk assessments for normal and abnormal operations, including planned changes.
• Lead incident investigation, root cause analyses, and corrective action implementation for customer sites and Automation Business Area in the region.
• Coordinate regular environmental aspect and impact identification for local operations.
• Ensure local HSE compliance through a local law register, regular compliance evaluations, and an annual compliance calendar.
• Plan and deliver local HSE communication to the locations.
• Facilitate HSE Committees at the Automation Locations.
• Represent locations in the regional HSE team and participate in associated workgroups, tasks, and programs.
• Manage customer information requests regarding HSE in the United States.
• Analyze and assess needs, gaps, and opportunities in Locations HSE performance for reviews, target setting, and preventive initiatives.
• Provide monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting on Locations HSE performance status.
• Ensure regulatory and Valmet HSE record-keeping and reporting requirements are met.
• Manage CSM environmental reporting database and lead locations reporting of environment KPIs.
• Act as a Spotlight key user for HSE event, Risk, and Audit management solution.
• Serve as the point of contact for GMS certification management for ISO 14001 and 45001, including implementation of expansion roadmap, audit management, and global learnings.
• Coordinate and perform internal and other HSE audits & inspections as per annual Valmet, Area, and local planning in location & on project and service sites.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years’ experience working in HSE in a similar environment.
• Minimum bachelor’s degree in health & safety, environment, manufacturing, or mechanical engineering.
• Experience driving continuous improvement activities.
• Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management system standards and certifications.
• Proficiency with local, state, and federal safety/environmental regulations.
• Good communication, teamwork, and relationship-building skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and Teams.
• Several years’ experience in multi-cultural customer project and site HSE work.
• Ability to travel 35% to other Valmet facilities and customer sites.
