About the Role

Provides leadership and coordination of the day-to-day safety requirements of the assigned project. The HSE Supervisor I is responsible for providing advice and a resource to field supervisors, foremen, and workers in all matters related to Health and Safety.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure a safe work environment for all project employees, sub-contractors, and visitors.
  • Provide HSE support and direction to all site personnel.
  • Participate and assist in the investigation of incidents to determine cause.
  • Establish what is required to eliminate any possible reoccurrence of an incident in the future.
  • Ensure safety obligations with clients are carried out per the clients’ terms and communicated to Site Supervision.
  • Routinely monitor the workforce for unsafe behaviors and coach employees on the correct behaviors when observed.
  • Ensure that the necessary HSE material is onsite (e.g., HSE Manual, applicable OH&S legislation and regulations, site safety inspection forms).
  • Ensure that incident reports are sent as soon as possible.
  • Ensure that safety meetings are held on a regular basis.
  • Ensure that audits and inspections are performed per the inspection schedule.
  • Submit weekly reports over site safety performance indicators.

Requirements

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in petrochemical construction safety.
  • At least two (2) years of excavation safety experience.
  • Understanding of OSHA 1926.541 and Subpart P.
  • Attendance at an Excavation Competent Person training.
  • Formal training in OSHA 1926 - Construction Safety Standards, Excavations, Scaffolding, Incident Investigation.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
  • OSHA 30-HR and/or OSHA 500.

Skills

  • Extensive experience and knowledge concerning excavation safety, including but not limited to acting as the employer’s excavation competent person, soil testing, inspection of proper benching and shoring techniques, excavation emergency action planning.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and operation of iPad tablets.
  • Ability to be in the field with the workforce 90% of the day.
