Health Insurance Navigator

Job Summary

The Intake/Outreach position will be assisting individuals and families to apply and recertify for health insurance. In addition, you will help the clients choose the appropriate health plans for the family.

Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities

  • Aid with outreach and enrollment activities in various settings throughout GLCAC Inc. service areas
  • Provide outreach information to agency staff to maximize outreach activities and avoid duplication of services
  • Maintain computerized records of all outreach and enrollment activities
  • Enter data into the agency's ENGAGE database
  • Absorb clients to prepare and submit applications for new health insurance requirements, track progress, and follow-up to maximize the number of clients that successfully obtain accurate health insurance
  • Attend any required training sessions/meetings and work with the Program Coordinator to submit reports required to the agency and the funding source
  • Work closely with other CSC Staff to continuously look for ways to improve client services as per project
  • Guide clients to complete applications for health insurance-related issues and assist with services for participation in enrollment and referral health-related issues
  • Provide information on federal income guidelines and qualifications and a general understanding of GLCAC, Inc. services
  • Maintain statistical records to reflect up-to-date information on individuals and families seeking services
  • Provide information by answering questions and requests and update application of any additional information needed in a timely manner as necessary
  • Offer accurate and quality customer service and information for all inquiries via phone, fax, mail, or e-mail
  • Perform additional duties as requested based on program needs
  • Work flexible schedule to meet the needs of the program, including some evenings/weekends

Skills And Qualifications

  • High School degree required
  • Post-secondary training/education/work experience in human services, business, or technology desirable, and a minimum of two years of work experience in a related field
  • Must be bilingual (English / Spanish) with great communication skills, both oral and written
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and familiar with maintaining a database
  • Must be committed to providing effective client/customer services and demonstrate self-initiative
  • Ability to interact with a highly diversified clientele and be able to work in a high-volume office
  • Relevant experience in the areas of outreach and enrollment and in working with clients from varying cultural/ethnic backgrounds
  • Must have a suitable CORI & SORI completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment

Travel

Yes; must have reliable transportation to all sites and service areas, including traveling to outreach events in greater Lawrence, Lowell, and Haverhill and providing direct services in the Lawrence, Lowell, and Haverhill office sites.

Physical Demands

This job regularly requires the employee to sit, walk and stand as well as use hands repetitively to handle or operate standard office equipment. The employee is occasionally required to kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment and uses standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
