Health Fitness Specialist I

Job Overview: The position's primary duties include staffing a fitness center in corporate/commercial and/or community settings, performing fitness assessments and equipment orientations, providing exercise prescriptions, maintaining equipment, assisting with the group fitness schedule, staffing health fairs, performing screenings such as blood pressure, body composition, and finger‑stick tests, implementing and reporting wellness programs, health coaching, creating incentive programs, presenting on health and wellness topics, and data reporting for all of these functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health/Fitness or a related field
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) certification
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Computer application skills
  • At least 6 months of relevant experience

Responsibilities

  • Supervise members during workouts, ensuring safety by correcting form and confirming proper load usage.
  • Assist members with program and goal attainment.
  • Enforce fitness‑floor policies and procedures, including equipment etiquette and cleaning after peak times.
  • Administer physical tests after consultations and in accordance with any physician recommendations.
  • Use assessment results to develop individualized exercise programs that help members achieve their goals.
  • Walk members through their prescribed programs and remain available to answer questions about progression.
  • Complete special projects assigned by the Fitness Coordinator.
