Health and Safety Supervisor

About the role

Element Resources is seeking a Health and Safety Supervisor for our Muncie, IN recycling plant. The Health and Safety Supervisor is focused on one of our key priorities—keeping the facility’s 175 employees healthy and safe. Your education and experience will be put to use across all aspects of Safety and Industrial Hygiene as we seek to minimize environmental factors or stresses that may cause sickness, impaired health and well-being, or significant discomfort among workers.

Performance Objectives

• Play a key role in implementing an EHS Management System (EHSMS) with a heavy emphasis on risk and risk reduction.
• Work with all plant employees to launch the plant’s first formal risk assessment process.
• Ensure employees are trained and performing work activities correctly.
• Conduct routine inspections; walk the plant floor a minimum of 4 hours per week monitoring activities to reduce incidents and injuries by modifying behaviors and at-risk conditions.
• Directly supervise 9 hourly employees in day-to-day hygiene/laundry services.
• Identify, communicate, and track daily safety topics/toolbox talks.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Industrial Safety or related field preferred; will consider Associate’s degree.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and database software, to track, analyze, and communicate impactful messages.
• Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations.
• Knowledge of proper protocol for exposure monitoring.
• Proficient with MS Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook, and Word).
• Highest ethical standards and commitment to strict compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Demonstrated ability to lead or play an important role in team-based success.

Experience

• Likely experience in manufacturing, heavy industrial, or chemical environments.
• 3–5 years of industrial safety experience preferred, but not required.

Work Environment

You must be able to work inside or outside the plant in all climate conditions and may occasionally be exposed to lead, fume, noise, dirt, hazards, chemicals, heat, and cold. Physical demands include the ability to see, hear, and speak; sit, stand for at least two hours at a time, sit, bend, crawl, squat, kneel, and climb; use both arms and hands to operate a computer and peripherals; lift 40 pounds from floor level; wear a respirator and other required PPE; and climb stairs. Travel may be required for training and company-sanctioned events.
