Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Health and Safety Specialist to provide subject matter expertise for a comprehensive citywide occupational health and safety program within the Office of Risk Management for the City of Philadelphia. This role involves high-level strategic planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety and health programs to ensure compliance with federal, state-mandated standards, and local regulations.

Experience

  • Minimum of three (5) years of experience in:
  • - Identifying and improving Risk Hazards.
  • - Ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations.
  • - Conducting Job Hazard Analysis, Root Cause Analysis, Corrective Action Implementation
  • - Successfully promoted safety standards from floor level employee up to C-suite level leadership.
  • - Ability to Project Manage ongoing deliverables, as well as impromptu assignments.
  • - Delivering In-Person and Virtually Lead training.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Safety Engineering, Public Health, or related physical/biological sciences.

Certifications & Licensure

  • Mandatory: Possession of a valid driver’s license (or eligibility to obtain one).
  • Optional: Professional safety certifications preferred (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP)).

Physical & Medical Requirements

  • Must be able to physically perform essential job duties, including walking, standing, climbing, and conducting field inspections in diverse environments.

  • Copies of relevant certifications and licenses must be submitted at the time of application.

Preferred Skills & Competencies

  • Knowledge of EPA and OSHA standards, ANSI, NFPA, and other relevant regulations.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills for training delivery and stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficiency in data collection and analysis for safety performance metrics and trend analysis.
  • Experience with incident management systems and safety management software.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams in safety program implementation and culture change initiatives.
