About the Location

Located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona on U.S. Highway 191, Morenci operations is an open-pit copper mining complex that has been in continuous operation since 1939. The operation includes two concentrators, a crushed-ore leach pad and stacking system, a low-grade run-of-mine (ROM) leaching system, four SX plants, and three EW tank houses that produce copper cathode.

Morenci is a unique company town with amenities such as company housing or a $750 monthly housing allowance for on-site employees (provided they meet program guidelines), a newly constructed daycare and community center, library, health-care facilities, state-of-the-art fitness centers, a movie theater, and a skate park. Our dedicated Parks and Recreation Division plans activities for all ages, including hiking, fishing, camping, hunting, and numerous parks.

Responsibilities

  • Directs employee engagement activities such as risk assessments and raising general safety awareness to employees, managers, and other stakeholders.
  • Leads safety audits and inspects facilities within area of responsibility to ensure a safe working environment and compliance with regulatory laws.
  • Manages Health and Safety functions or projects.
  • Trains staff from multiple divisions in safety procedures, including specialized safety training (e.g., confined space, LOTOTO) and Annual Refresher Training as required.
  • Inspects and evaluates work in progress, identifies any problem areas, and may direct remedial action.
  • Participates on cross-function teams to manage moderately complex incident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Accompanies MSHA/OSHA/State Mine Inspectors and document regulated field activities.
  • Conducts health and safety orientations, visits work sites, and distributes literature to implement and promote safety and/or environmental policies and procedures.
  • May administer workers’ compensation program for the company, including interacting with workers’ compensation insurers, monitoring claims, developing and administering loss prevention and rehabilitation management/monitoring programs, maintaining files, and providing necessary support in defense of claims.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED and five (5) years of experience in Health & Safety or related, OR
  • Associate’s degree and three (3) years of experience in Health & Safety or related, OR
  • Bachelor’s degree and one (1) year of experience in Health & Safety or related, OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical mining-related discipline with at least one summer internship experience (or equivalent) working in mining or industrial environment.
  • Experience leading personnel and/or projects.

Pay

The estimated annual pay range for this role is $75,000–$104,000 (base salary only). This range reflects qualifications, experience, skills, and other job-related factors. The role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.

Schedule

  • Employees may be required to work a non-standard schedule, which may include shift work (other than day shift) at a 24/7, 365-day operation.
