Role Overview
The Health and Physical Education Teacher is a full-time position with classes held at the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ISBVI). Responsibilities include providing instruction that aligns with Individual Education Plans (IEPs), assessing student progress, supervising students, leading school improvement committees, assisting with co-curricular events, and communicating with students in their preferred communication mode.
Responsibilities
- Provide instruction addressing IEP goals and state standards.
- Audit and document student progress and communicate progress to parents through IEP updates.
- Supervise students to ensure their health, safety, and welfare.
- Lead or participate in school improvement committees.
- Assist with supervision of co-curricular events.
- Provide information to students in their appropriate communication mode.
- Exhibit reliable attendance, promptness, and dependability.
- Provide direct services and consults to students, families, and stakeholders.
- Prepare lesson plans meeting ISBVI and state standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Elementary Education, Special Education, or related field with a teaching endorsement.
- Valid teaching license or emergency license through the State of Indiana.
- Specialized knowledge of modern teaching practices and principles for educating visually impaired students.
- Competency in vision-specific skills aligned with the grade level of instruction.
- Proficiency in Braille or willingness to become proficient.
