Key Responsibilities

  • Instructional Planning and Delivery
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive physical education curriculum that aligns with state and national standards.
    • Provide instruction in various areas of physical education, including fitness, sports, motor skills, and health education.
    • Utilize a variety of teaching methods, including demonstrations, drills, games, and fitness activities, to engage students and promote physical activity.
  • Student Engagement and Assessment
    • Create an inclusive and motivating classroom environment that encourages student participation and enthusiasm for physical activity.
    • Assess and evaluate student performance through observations, fitness tests, skill assessments, and participation.
    • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to support their physical development and address areas for improvement.
  • Curriculum Development and Professional Development
    • Develop and update instructional materials, lesson plans, and resources to enhance the physical education curriculum.
    • Stay current with advancements in physical education, fitness trends, and best practices through professional development.
    • Incorporate new trends and innovative teaching strategies into the classroom and physical education activities.
  • Classroom and Activity Management
    • Maintain an orderly and safe environment for physical education activities, including gymnasium and outdoor settings.
    • Implement and enforce safety rules and procedures to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
    • Address and manage any behavioral issues or disruptions in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Health and Wellness Education
    • Promote and support students' understanding of health, nutrition, and wellness.
    • Integrate health education into physical education lessons to help students make informed choices about their health.
    • Provide resources and guidance on healthy lifestyle habits and physical fitness.
  • Parent and Community Engagement
    • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, achievements, and areas for improvement.
    • Participate in parent-teacher conferences, school meetings, and other events to build strong relationships with families.
    • Engage with the community to promote physical activity and wellness initiatives.
  • Administrative Tasks
    • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and other necessary documentation.
    • Prepare and submit reports, lesson plans, and other required paperwork in a timely manner.
    • Manage and maintain physical education equipment and resources, ensuring they are safe and in good condition.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Health Education, or a related field.
    • Valid state teaching certification in Physical Education or secondary education.
    • Previous experience teaching physical education preferred.
    • Strong knowledge of physical fitness, sports, and health education principles.
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, and parents.
    • Proficiency in using educational technology and fitness equipment.

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods.
    • Capacity to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment and materials.
    • Ability to perform physical activities, including running, demonstrating exercises, and participating in sports.

    Work Environment

    • Work is performed in a variety of settings, including gymnasiums, outdoor fields, and classrooms.
    • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for school events and activities.
