Head Teacher I

Full-Time non-exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Qualifications

• 32 ECE Units
• 6 Units in Toddler Development
• 16 General Education Units
• Associate degree or higher
• CTC Master Teacher Permit (or currently enrolled in coursework to obtain it)
• Solid working knowledge of Community Care Licensing requirements, California Department of Education requirements, and industry “Best Practices”
• Pediatric First Aid and Pediatric CPR certification (must maintain as required by California State Licensing)

Desired: Proficient in written and spoken Spanish language skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and direct daily classroom operations and student activities
• Demonstrate collegial teamwork with respect, trust, and professionalism
• Relate sensitively and maturely with children, parents, and staff
• Adhere to all NBCC policies and procedures
• Maintain general housekeeping tasks in cooperation with the teaching team
• Engage in regular self-assessment, goal setting, and performance evaluations
• Conduct staff evaluations for direct reports in collaboration with the Site Supervisor
• Obtain appropriate substitutes for absences
• Verify payroll, sickness, and vacation time for direct reports
• Attend all scheduled NBCC staff development days, meetings, and mandated events
• Attend parent education and celebratory events
• Maintain professional demeanor at all times
• Support the teaching team in implementing child behavior plans and interventions
• Provide warmth and positive attention to each child
• Recognize and respect each child’s cultural, ethnic background, and individual needs
• Foster positive self-esteem through respectful interactions

Program & Environmental Requirements

• Plan and implement diverse, age-appropriate activities aligned with NBCC philosophies and industry “Best Practices”
• Ensure activities and environment meet children’s developmental needs (social-emotional, cognitive, fine motor, gross motor, and physical)
• Implement curriculum supporting NBCC’s Culture of Health
• Maintain a safe, orderly, and inviting classroom environment (indoor and outdoor) compliant with NBCC best practices
• Maintain required supervision of children at all times per California State Licensing ratio standards
• Conduct ongoing Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) assessments
• Utilize Environmental Rating Scales (ECERS) and DRDP to plan curriculum
• Maintain and update classroom documents (lesson plans, schedules, meal counts, menus, rosters, sign-in/out sheets, and ouch reports)
• Report staff and child illnesses/absences daily per CDE and CDC requirements
• Report all injuries incurred by children or staff in writing to the Site Supervisor
• Coordinate program activities (Parent Orientations, Parent Conferences, Parent Advisory Committees) with supervisors
• Develop meaningful relationships with parents through open communication
• Direct feedback (positive or negative) to the Site Supervisor
• Implement child behavior intervention under the Site Supervisor’s direction
• Conduct ongoing written child assessments and participate in semi-annual parent/teacher conferences
• Produce a weekly/monthly newsletter for parents

Work Environment

• Work both outdoors and indoors
• Use computers, tablets, cell phones, and other office equipment
• Work independently and collaboratively with peers and supervisors

Human Resources Requirements

• Health screening as required in section 101216(g)
• Tuberculosis test and documentation as specified in section 101216(g)
• Criminal Record Clearance and/or exemption (DOJ, CACI & FBI)
• Valid Driver’s License (if transporting children)
• Child Abuse Mandated Reporter Training (online)
• Proof of immunizations for MMR, Tdap, and Flu
• Current CPR and First Aid certification
• Child Care Center Orientation and Records Keeping
• Preventative Health Practices training
• Annual Employee Performance Evaluations
• ADP processing for timecards and time off
• Employee desk file management and documentation

Physical Requirements

• Health clearance by a physician
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform movements including squatting, bending, reaching, standing, and sitting
• Proof of current immunizations (Measles, Pertussis, Influenza)
• T.B. clearance within the past year

Pay

$28.50–$32.00 hourly
