About the role

The 92nd Street Y Nursery School aims to create an atmosphere of shared responsibility, mutual respect, and a relatively equal division of labor during the school day. As Head Teacher, this position must ensure that the mission of the Nursery School is furthered, and that the development of each child is supported.

Responsibilities

  • Create a harmonious atmosphere in the school by being flexible, respectful, and cooperative with all staff as well as sharing expertise and materials
  • Participate in curriculum planning
  • Undertake all teaching responsibilities as outlined in school curriculum
  • Plan and execute all areas of curriculum
  • Supervision of whole class group
  • Supervise children in all activities, indoors and outdoors
  • Supervision of Assistant and Associate teachers
  • Parent communication (conferences, phone calls, meetings, monthly newsletters)
  • Ability to articulate 92NY’s Nursery School’s philosophy, mission and goals to a varied audience
  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints, including those of a sensitive and confidential nature
  • Complete written reports and conference notes for all children in the class for both internal and external reference
  • Observe and evaluate the progress of each child and maintain records
  • Participate in all faculty meetings, 92NY staff meetings, cohort meetings, and class team meetings
  • Present a clear vision of the classroom for parents on Curriculum night and throughout the year
  • Coordinate parent involvement in classroom as necessary
  • Maintain classroom cleanliness and supplies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Zoom and Brightwheel and other digital platforms used by 92NY
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested

Requirements

  • Master’s in Early Childhood Development required; N.Y.S. Certification preferred
  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years teaching experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Maintain the highest level of discretion, professionalism, and confidentiality regarding children, families, staff, and all sensitive school matters
  • Ability to work with a diverse cultural population

Pay

Compensation Range $74,000 - $83,000. The actual compensation offered will be based on a number of factors including, but not limited to the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held.

Schedule

37.50 hours per week
