Head Strength and Conditioning Coach and Fitness Center Director

About the role
This position supports 12 Varsity athletics teams in strength and conditioning, demonstrating expertise in anatomy and physiology, exercise science, fundamental and Olympic-style weight-lifting exercises, and sport-specific speed, agility, and quickness training. The role requires a passion for women’s athletics, the ability to instruct and communicate technique refinement, and a commitment to elevating athlete performance through positive feedback and cues.
The Head Strength and Conditioning Coach plans and executes strength and conditioning programming for Varsity athletics teams, teaches exercise form and technique, coaches athletes on spotting and form cues, and ensures the overall safety of the weight room facility. The Fitness Center Director oversees the operations, maintenance, and upkeep of the fitness center, including staffing, programming, and budget management.
Responsibilities
- Manage strength and conditioning programming through Teambuildr for competitive and off-season segments of athletic seasons.
- Collaborate with athletic training to develop programming that challenges student-athletes while mitigating injuries.
- Meet regularly with head coaches and athletic trainers.
- Develop a strength and conditioning strategic plan, including long- and short-term goals for athletes and Varsity athletic teams.
- Provide direct supervision and reporting for the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach.
- Oversee and direct the operations, maintenance, and upkeep of the fitness center.
- Recruit, train, and supervise student workers for the fitness center.
- Work with the Associate AD and Conferences and Events to manage summer programming, including day-to-day direction and oversight of the facility during summer months.
- Develop and coordinate Fit Club programming, including hiring instructors and managing class schedules.
- Provide orientations for faculty, staff, and students to the fitness center.
- Oversee facility membership and generate at least $7,000 in membership revenue.
- Maintain the facility calendar and webpage.
- Develop and maintain policies for the fitness center.
- Manage and oversee the fitness center’s annual operating budget.
- Coordinate reunion activities and provide oversight in collaboration with Alumnae/i Relations and Development.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Certification in Strength and Conditioning or Personal Training is required; NCSA or USA Weightlifting certifications are preferred.
- Knowledge of Olympic lifts is required.
- Adult CPR/AED certification is required.
- Additional instructor certifications (e.g., Yoga, Spinning, Kettlebells, TRX) are welcome.
