Head Start Preschool Teacher - Integrated Arts Academy (IAA)

Head Start is a federally-funded, national child and family development program which provides comprehensive services for pregnant women, children from birth to age five, and their families. Services for children promote school readiness, and include early education, health, nutrition, mental health, and services for children with special needs. Services for parents promote family engagement, and include parent leadership and social service supports.

About the role

As a Head Start Preschool Teacher and in collaboration with the Burlington School District, you will serve as the lead teacher in an outcomes-oriented, team environment, and provide safe, healthy, friendly, and developmentally appropriate environments and experiences for children ages 3–5. Motivated Head Start teachers improve the trajectory of children’s lives, including children’s learning outcomes, living standards, and later academic and professional success.

Responsibilities

• Deliver developmentally appropriate early childhood education
• Conduct child outcome assessments
• Manage child behavior and implement curriculum planning, development, and implementation
• Maintain excellent verbal and written communication, documentation, and recordkeeping

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related education field
• Vermont educator’s license with early childhood education endorsement preferred
• Knowledge and experience in developmentally appropriate early childhood practice
• Commitment to social justice and to working with families with limited financial resources
• Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and access to reliable transportation
• Physical ability to carry out required tasks

Bilingual abilities are a plus.

Pay

Rate of pay during the first 60-working-day probationary period is $28.08/hour; post-probationary rate of pay is $28.76/hour.

Schedule

40 hours/week, approximately 42 weeks/year (summer layoff).
