About the role
As the Head Start Assistant Teacher, you’ll play an essential role in providing all aspects of a quality child development program with emphasis on the cognitive, social, and emotional development of preschool-aged children. Each day is an opportunity to inspire curiosity, foster creativity, and build a foundation for lifelong success in the lives of children and their families.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and providing quality educational experiences for preschool-aged children by helping to plan and prepare daily and weekly program experiences, considering the needs of children.
- Engage in adult-child interactions that are responsive, supportive, and respectful of children’s needs, development, and play interests.
- Participate in the daily activities planned for the children.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent credential, Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential, or equivalent; must have Child Growth and Development coursework or equivalent coursework according to NH State Childcare Licensing requirements.
- Previous experience working in an early childhood classroom.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with young children and their families and relate comfortably to income-eligible families.
- Attention to detail, confidentiality, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to fostering a positive workplace and early childhood classroom experience.
- Successful completion of criminal record check and CPR/First Aid certification.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required for occasional travel between program locations.
Pay
$17.75–$22.49 per hour, based on level of education and relative work experience.
Schedule
Full-time, Monday–Friday, 35 hours per week (school year).
