About the role
The Montessori School of Durham (MSD) seeks a new Head of School to lead a team of dedicated professionals and volunteers committed to the joy of learning and educating the whole child. This next Head of School will succeed a respected leader who has served for over a decade, building a legacy of stability, thoughtful growth, financial strength, and deep trust across the community.
Responsibilities
- Lead the educational vision and strategic planning for MSD
- Build and maintain strong relationships with the MSD community, including parents, students, faculty, and staff
- Ensure the school's mission, values, and educational philosophy are upheld and promoted
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the school, ensuring alignment with the school's goals and values
- Develop and implement strategies for long-term growth, access and affordability, community impact, and future programmatic opportunities
- Manage the budget and financial resources of the school
- Engage in professional development and stay current with best practices in Montessori education
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in education or a related field
- At least 10 years of experience in a leadership role within a Montessori school or similar educational setting
- Experience in strategic planning and implementation
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders
- Passion for Montessori education and commitment to the school's mission
Qualifications
- Experience leading a team of educators and staff
- Knowledge of Montessori pedagogy and curriculum
- Experience with fundraising and grant writing
- Experience with community outreach and engagement
