Head of Portfolio Management
WTW Alternative Asset Insurance Solutions (AAIS) provides commercial insurance, employee benefits, and transactional services for private equity firms and their portfolio companies. Engagement begins with diligence support to evaluate costs, liabilities, and exposures of potential acquisitions, leading to WTW's appointment as insurance broker at transaction close. WTW manages the portfolio company's insurance program through the fund's hold period and beyond, aiming to retain the relationship through ownership changes.
About the role
The Head of Portfolio Management leads the team responsible for stewardship of WTW's key private equity relationships. This senior leadership role is accountable for the performance, consistency, and growth of the portfolio management function. Responsibilities include building and developing the team, setting service standards, serving as the senior escalation point for important PE relationships, and partnering with Producers and practice leadership to convert WTW's one-stop-shop positioning into retained, expanding revenue.
Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Growth
- Build and grow the team by recruiting, hiring, and onboarding Portfolio Managers, forecasting capacity against deal flow and client base growth.
- Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, and setting performance expectations, building bench strength and a clear career path.
- Set and own a consistent portfolio management playbook to ensure uniform engagement, stewardship, and service quality across all funds and portfolio companies.
- Build a resilient team to mitigate key-person concentration risk, institutionalizing relationships across the team.
- Define and track key metrics: client retention, renewal timeliness, cross-sell, stewardship completion, and satisfaction.
- Represent the portfolio management function to leadership, framing headcount and investment in revenue terms.
- Lead by example as a role model for best Client Advocate practices.
Client Stewardship and Oversight
- Oversee implementation and execution of portfolio strategy across private equity funds and their portfolio companies, ensuring PMs act as key liaisons between the fund, portfolio companies, and WTW's service teams.
- Ensure service and broking teams communicate actively with clients, set proper expectations, and meet renewal deadlines.
- Serve as the senior escalation point for significant relationships, large claims, and at-risk renewals.
- Monitor portfolio company renewals, large claims, integration of add-on deals, material business changes, and annual stewardship reporting.
- Keep funds apprised of material changes and maintain proactive diaries on open matters such as claims and potential add-ons.
- Ensure comprehensive delivery of WTW's service value proposition and compliance with Group policies across all regulatory domains.
Growth and Business Development
- Partner with the production team to expand relationships through new business, placing new coverages, rounding out accounts (including employee benefits), and facilitating introductions to portfolio companies.
- Direct the team to monitor each fund's pipeline for pending and prospective acquisitions and divestitures, coordinating with diligence and transaction solutions teams.
- Proactively identify upcoming sale processes to position WTW as the go-forward service provider for new ownership teams.
- Leverage WTW's analytics capabilities and specialty verticals to differentiate on deals and relationships.
- Coordinate with underwriting management and carrier partners to leverage aggregate portfolio premium and risk trends for preferred placement and specialized programs.
Transaction Lifecycle
- Ensure the team manages the transition of target companies from initial engagement through M&A due diligence and transaction close, with smooth handoffs at each step.
- Work with the project management team to provide clients with timely reporting at each stage.
- Ensure PMs remain the key contact for the insured through transitions and confirm client needs are continuously met.
Requirements
- 15+ years of client management and/or insurance broking experience, preferably from an industry-leading broker, including direct people-leadership experience.
- Proven track record building, developing, and retaining a high-performing team, with ability to set structure, standards, and consistency.
- In-depth knowledge of the private equity sector and the industries these clients invest in, including products, services, and processes for transactions and ongoing service needs.
- Strong commercial judgment and ability to frame team investment in margin and revenue terms for leadership.
- First-class interpersonal skills with credibility to serve as a senior point of contact for private equity decision makers.
- Excellent verbal, written, numerical, presentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and relationships in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Bachelor's degree.
- Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Pay
The base salary compensation range for this role is $400,000–$450,000 USD per year. This role is also eligible for an annual short-term incentive bonus.
