About the Role

A confidential financial institution is seeking an experienced Head of Commercial Portfolio Management to oversee the performance, risk management, and strategic direction of its commercial loan portfolio. This leadership position will be responsible for maintaining sound credit practices, ensuring regulatory compliance, monitoring asset quality, and providing strategic oversight across the commercial lending portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the monitoring and management of the commercial loan portfolio, including:
    • Commercial Real Estate (CRE)
    • Commercial & Industrial (C&I)
    • SBA loans
    • Other commercial lending segments
  • Develop and implement portfolio management strategies to ensure timely completion of risk rating reviews.
  • Identify portfolio trends, concentrations, and emerging risks, recommending proactive measures to mitigate exposure.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of Commercial Portfolio Managers.
  • Ensure adherence to internal credit policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain ongoing financial statement and covenant tracking across the commercial loan portfolio.
  • Partner with commercial lenders to support client relationships and ensure effective portfolio servicing.
  • Engage with borrowers on complex credit matters, renewals, and loan restructures as needed.
  • Prepare and present portfolio reports for executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
  • Analyze key portfolio performance metrics, including delinquencies, charge-offs, and risk ratings.
  • Support regulatory examinations and internal or external audits by providing documentation and analysis.
  • Recommend appropriate changes to borrower risk ratings.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Experience

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience within a commercial lending department at a financial institution.
  • 2 to 4 years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial lending policies and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of Commercial Real Estate (CRE) lending practices.
  • Knowledge of SBA lending programs preferred, but not required.

  • Ability to perform financial calculations involving interest, discounts, commissions, percentages, and basic algebra.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly to various audiences.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and apply common sense when carrying out written and verbal instructions.
