About the role

The Manager of Portfolio Managers provides expert analytical, underwriting, and portfolio management support to an assigned portfolio and group of Portfolio Managers. The role partners with commercial bankers to perform independent analysis of creditworthiness, prepare credit write-ups, monitor assigned portfolios, and support clients through the lending process.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs and supervises the daily operations of their assigned group of Portfolio Managers: collaborates in hiring and retention; maintains schedules, coaches, conducts performance appraisals, disciplines, trains and cross trains staff regarding service expectations, job performance standards, policies, procedures, regulations and systems.
  • Develops credit information for use by credit officers or committees in the making of lending decisions regarding new, renewal, and extension loans, by reviewing all pertinent credit and financial information, including reporting services, credit bureaus, other companies, and electronic stored files.
  • Analyzes factors such as income growth, margins, trends, quality of management, market shares, potential risks of industry and collateral appraisals.
  • Prepares credit and cash flow analyses; submits credit approval documents and write-ups to appropriate personnel for decision making.
  • Provides ongoing monitoring of assigned portfolios to ensure asset quality and customer service standards are met.
  • Conducts ongoing portfolio review of past dues, exceptions, and maturing loan reports.
  • Maintains compliance with loan agreements and covenants; spreads ongoing required financial statements as received from customers.
  • Reports past dues to officer or makes contact to collect payment; works with officer to collect items needed for renewal processing.
  • Participates in deal discussion meetings between lending personnel, market managers, and credit officers.
  • Affords assistance in the lending and sales process by accompanying lenders on customer and prospect calls when necessary.
  • Works directly with other internal departments, including appraisal services group and loan administration.
  • Collaborates with third-party attorneys for loan documentation preparation (with guidance on complex matters).
  • Performs in-house appraisals and inspections on collateral.
  • Ensures funding of construction loan disbursements in accordance with bank policy; works closely with borrower, CCFG, title companies, and other third parties; maintains ongoing monitoring and record-keeping.
  • Ensures adherence to credit policy, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures all departmental documents and activities are performed in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures as applicable to this position, including completion of required compliance training.
  • Performs other duties, additional responsibilities, and project leadership tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • 10+ years prior applicable experience including credit analyst, commercial lender, or portfolio manager.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Computer Skills: MS Office programs, with intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Financial spreading software. Familiarity with bank operating systems (e.g., Loan Vantage, Synapsis, Synergy) or equivalent.
