Head of Engineering
Careerscape is recruiting on behalf of a growing technology company in the greater Manchester, New Hampshire area for an experienced Head of Engineering to lead their software organization. This is a high-impact executive role for a technical leader who wants to shape engineering strategy, build high-performing teams, and drive the architecture and delivery of products used by real customers every day. Day to day, you will split your time between hands-on technical leadership, org-building, and cross-functional partnership with Product, Design, and the executive team. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-moving, hybrid environment, is comfortable setting technical vision while still getting into the details when needed, and genuinely enjoys developing engineering managers and senior ICs into stronger leaders.
Responsibilities
- Define and own the engineering roadmap and technical strategy in partnership with the executive team
- Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing engineering organization across multiple teams
- Partner closely with Product and Design leadership to translate business goals into technical execution
- Establish and maintain engineering best practices around code quality, testing, and deployment
- Oversee system architecture decisions to ensure scalability, security, and reliability
- Manage engineering budgets, headcount planning, and vendor or tooling decisions
- Drive a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement across teams
- Report on engineering health, delivery timelines, and technical risk to executive leadership
- Recruit, hire, and retain top engineering talent at all levels
- Represent engineering in company-wide strategic planning and decision-making
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience with at least 4 years in senior engineering leadership
- Proven track record leading and scaling engineering teams of 20 or more
- Strong background in modern software architecture, cloud infrastructure, and distributed systems
- Experience partnering with Product and executive stakeholders on company strategy
- Demonstrated success hiring, mentoring, and developing engineering managers
- Solid understanding of agile development practices and delivery methodologies
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Experience operating in a hybrid or distributed team environment

Pay
The salary range for this role is $205,000 - $270,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
