Responsibilities
- Align Engineering with the Business
- Work closely with the founder, product managers, customer success, and sales teams to ensure that the engineering team and their work are well-aligned with the rest of the company.
- Keep the product roadmap and engineering priorities aligned.
- Ensure that we have a healthy balance between maintaining the functionality and performance of the existing product while shipping new features.
- Build and Lead the Team
- Recruit, interview, and screen candidates for the engineering team.
- We'll rely on you to grow the team with the right people.
- Manage and grow the engineering team.
- Set expectations, hold one-on-ones, and take responsibility for enabling a high-performing group of engineers to do their best work.
- Set the engineering culture. You'll work with the team to refine how we work, review code, test for quality, and ship changes.
- We're looking for someone who can advocate for and support agile software practices that help the team work as efficiently and happily as possible.
- Own Reliability and Customer Trust
- Own uptime, performance, on-call, and incident response, with the monitoring and alerting to support it.
- Handle the security and compliance requirements our larger hotel and restaurant group customers ask for.
Requirements
10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 3+ years leading engineering teams.
You have scaled both a product and a team through a growth phase, and you know which problems show up at 4 engineers versus 15.
Your strong technical background in modern web development, deep enough to make architecture calls and review any pull request on the team.
You are comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity. You define the process rather than waiting for one.
Bonus Points
- Have shipped LLM-powered features to real users at scale and dealt with what happens when they get it wrong.
- Have built B2B SaaS: CRMs, ATSs, or all-in-one operational tools.
- Have shipped Ruby on Rails in production.
