About the role
Wevise is on a mission to level the playing field in tech through direct programming and partnerships with nonprofits that support underserved and disadvantaged people to enter and advance in the technology industry. The organization provides access to mentors, training, educational opportunities, and careers via two programs: a free, on‑demand mentorship platform where mentors and mentees specify short, medium, or long‑term interests and are matched based on overlapping barriers; and the TechPath Alliance, a city‑focused pilot in Chicago, IL that brings together nonprofits and for‑profits to run a six‑month mentoring and career‑development program for underserved emerging tech professionals.
The Head of Engineering owns day‑to‑day technical execution in a resource‑constrained, volunteer‑driven environment, working closely with the CTO to ensure the Wevise platform evolves reliably, securely, and sustainably while supporting the organization's mission and program commitments.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership, code reviews, and architectural guidance to volunteer engineers.
- Coordinate delivery and remove blockers to enable engineering progress.
- Serve as an individual contributor and write production code when engineering capacity is unavailable or insufficient.
- Work with the CTO to align technical efforts with the organization's mission and program commitments.
