Head of Data, Digital & Governance

About the role

ENGIE is a multinational energy company that places sustainable development at the core of its activities—electricity, natural gas, energy efficiency and services—to meet the challenges of the low‑carbon transition. The company is seeking a Head of Data, Digital & Governance for the IT & Digital Directorate, based in Milan (Via Chiese 72). The role reports to the Chief Information Officer and leads the Data & Digital areas to support ENGIE Italy’s business, while overseeing governance of budget and vendor management across Italy, Spain and Portugal. The incumbent will also serve as the point of contact for the South Europe platform (Italy, Spain, Portugal) within the ENGIE group.

Responsibilities

• Data Platform & AI / Machine Learning: manage and evolve the enterprise data platform strategy; develop and maintain data governance and AI/ML solutions; define a data/AI roadmap aligned with business and regulatory objectives; ensure quality, reliability, security and scalability of data and models.
• Digital Solutions and Products: continuously support and evolve digital applications, platforms and tools for the GBU; collaborate closely with business lines to translate operational needs into high‑impact digital solutions; prioritize and deliver customer‑centric, value‑driven digital projects.
• Governance, Budget and Suppliers (Italy‑Spain‑Portugal): hold operational responsibility for the IT & Digital unit budget; provide economic governance and cost control for IT & Digital in Italy while supporting cross‑country platform needs; manage vendor relationships, strategy and SLA compliance.
• Act as the point of contact for the South Europe platform (Italy, Spain, Portugal) within the ENGIE group.

Requirements

• Proven experience in senior roles driving Digital Transformation, AI/ML and IT budget governance, preferably in energy, utilities, renewables or other asset‑heavy industries.
• Strong propensity for digital transformation and a track record of leading organizational and technological change.
• Expertise in project portfolio management, prioritisation, risk and value management for IT.
• Direct experience managing teams of 8‑10 + people with a people‑oriented approach.
• Solid knowledge of modern data platforms, cloud services (Azure, AWS, GCP), ML/AI tools, data‑driven architectures and data‑governance models.
• Experience in economic governance, multi‑year budgeting and international vendor management.
• Fluent English (C1+ level) – essential for the role.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, Physics or other STEM disciplines.
• MBA or a master’s in Digital Transformation / Data Science is a plus.
• Preferred certifications: ITIL, Project Management, Agile, DAMA.

Pay

Annual gross salary (RAL) expected between €75,000 and €90,000, depending on experience and seniority.
