About the role

The Head of Casualty Claims is responsible for leading the overall strategy, operations, and performance of the casualty claims organization for an established A-rated property & casualty insurance carrier. This executive oversees complex casualty claims, drives operational excellence, ensures regulatory compliance, and develops high-performing claims teams. The role partners closely with underwriting, legal, actuarial, and executive leadership to optimize claim outcomes, control loss costs, and deliver exceptional service while supporting the company's long-term business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee complex casualty claims, drive operational excellence, ensure regulatory compliance, and develop high-performing claims teams.
  • Partner closely with underwriting, legal, actuarial, and executive leadership to optimize claim outcomes, control loss costs, and deliver exceptional service.
  • Manage multi-state claims operations and ensure compliance with state regulations and industry best practices.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor high-performing claims teams across multiple locations.
  • Implement operational improvements, leverage claims analytics, and drive continuous process enhancements.
  • Manage claim severity, loss adjustment expenses, and departmental budgets.
  • Utilize modern claims management systems, business intelligence tools, and performance metrics to improve operational effectiveness.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, ethical claims handling, and deliver superior customer outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; JD preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive casualty claims experience, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Extensive experience overseeing General Liability, Auto Liability, Umbrella/Excess Liability, and other casualty lines.
  • Proven success managing multi-state claims operations and ensuring compliance with state regulations and industry best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and mentor high-performing claims teams across multiple locations.
  • Strong background in claims strategy, reserving, litigation management, and complex claim resolution.
  • Experience partnering with underwriting, legal, risk control, actuarial, and executive leadership to improve portfolio performance.
  • Track record of implementing operational improvements, leveraging claims analytics, and driving continuous process enhancements.
  • Strong financial acumen, including management of claim severity, loss adjustment expenses, and departmental budgets.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills with policyholders, brokers, attorneys, TPAs, and reinsurers.
  • Experience utilizing modern claims management systems, business intelligence tools, and performance metrics to improve operational effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated commitment to regulatory compliance, ethical claims handling, and delivering superior customer outcomes.
