Job Summary

The Head of Carrier Operations will lead the company's asset-based carrier division, owning full P&L responsibility for a fleet operation of 150–500 drivers across general/mixed freight. This role is accountable for driving profitable growth, operational excellence, and safety performance while building the organizational capability to scale the division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic & Financial Ownership: Own division P&L, growth strategy, and capital allocation to drive profitability and fleet expansion.
  • Operations & Asset Management: Direct daily fleet operations, dispatch, and maintenance to optimize asset utilization, cost per mile, and service reliability.
  • Safety & Compliance: Drive a high-standard safety culture, ensuring full compliance with FMCSA, DOT, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Talent & Leadership: Build and mentor multi-tiered operational leadership while overseeing driver recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Commercial Collaboration: Partner with sales and account management on pricing strategy, contract negotiations, and key client retention.

Requirements

  • Leadership Scope: 15+ years in asset-based transportation (7+ in a senior or GM role) managing multi-site operations and 150+ drivers.
  • P&L & Financials: Proven P&L ownership with a track record of driving profitable growth and managing operational/financial KPIs.
  • Core Operations & Compliance: Deep technical knowledge of dispatch, fleet maintenance, driver management, and DOT/FMCSA regulations.
  • Commercial Expertise: Strong commercial acumen with direct experience supporting or leading customer and contract negotiations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, or equivalent experience.

Based preferably in Austin, Houston, Dallas or LA.
