Head of Business Development
Donjon Shipbuilding & Repair (DS&R) is a full-service shipyard and industrial fabrication facility supporting the maintenance, repair, and construction needs of commercial and government marine and industrial operators. The shipyard, located in Erie, Pennsylvania, is part of the broader Donjon Marine platform, a marine infrastructure company known for its capabilities in dredging, salvage and emergency response, marine demolition, heavy lift services, diving, and towing operations across North America.
About the role
DS&R is seeking its first Head of Business Development to lead its commercial outreach and customer development efforts. This is a remote-based role with regular travel expected up to approximately 50%, including visits to DS&R facilities, client sites, and industry events. The Head of Business Development will work closely with DS&R and Donjon leadership and operations to identify opportunities, develop client relationships, and convert market demand into long-term project backlog.
Responsibilities
- Lead business development and client relationship management for DS&R.
- Develop and execute market intelligence and strategy to expand DS&R’s presence in its addressable market.
- Coordinate internally with DS&R and Donjon leadership and operations teams.
- Manage and track the sales pipeline and CRM systems.
- Engage with industry stakeholders, including vessel operators, marine contractors, industrial fabrication contractors, and government entities.
- Represent the company at industry events and build strategic relationships.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in business development, sales, or client relationship management, preferably in maritime, shipyard, marine services, or heavy industrial sectors.
- Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to develop trust with customers and industry stakeholders.
- Highly self-motivated and comfortable working independently with a proactive approach.
- Ability to translate customer needs into practical shipyard and fabrication service opportunities.
- Organized and disciplined in managing a sales pipeline and tracking business development activity.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with CRM tools and market analysis is preferred.
- Background in shipyard and fabrication operations, marine repair, vessel operations, or heavy steel fabrication is strongly preferred.
