Head Men's Volleyball Coach

Under the general direction of the Director of Athletics, this full-time position is responsible for recruiting and retaining qualified student-athletes, instructing and developing them in volleyball and academics, preparing the team for matches, fundraising, and supporting the mission and goals of Hood College.

Responsibilities

  • Coaching, Recruiting, and Team Administration (85%)
    • Collaborate with the Director of Athletics on yearly recruiting goals for the program.
    • Provide instruction on skill development, rules, technologies, and strategies; adjust game-day strategies as needed.
    • Model and instruct student-athletes in departmental, College, Conference, and NCAA policies and procedures, including the Hood Honor Code, Alcohol Policy, Code of Conduct, Travel Policy, Conference bylaws, and NCAA guidelines.
    • Organize and conduct practices during traditional and non-traditional seasons.
    • Develop team travel and security plans in compliance with departmental and College guidelines.
    • Serve as the representative of the department and College during team travel for in- and out-of-season competition; supervise the team during all travel.
    • Manage and account for the team budget; submit required forms and reports to the Director of Athletics and Accounting Department.
    • Develop and implement fundraising strategies for the team.
    • Stay current with NCAA regulations, Conference bylaws, and departmental policies; participate in NCAA and Conference meetings and voting procedures as appropriate.
    • Refer student-athletes to College resources for academic, medical, or personal support as needed.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
  • Conference Events & Services Liaison (15%)
    • Coordinate athletic rentals and facility reservations with the office of Conference Events and Services (CES).
    • Direct interested outside vendors to the office of CES.
    • Assist in identifying site supervisors for outside rentals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Proven successful coaching experience, with 2-3 years preferred.
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.

    • Proficient in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), email, and internet.
    • Ability to learn new applications quickly, including organization-wide information systems and department-specific software.
  • Language Skills
    • Strong oral communication skills to present information and build relationships with managers, clients, students, and the public.
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.
    • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures manuals.
  • Mathematical Skills
    • Proficient with statistical and financial concepts.
    • Ability to apply concepts to tracking, projections, goal setting, and interpreting reports.
    • Ability to draw conclusions from reports and make cost-effective decisions regarding programs.
  • Reasoning Ability
    • Ability to solve practical problems and work with concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
    • Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in developing and executing project plans.
    • Ability to work in theoretical arenas and apply logic as appropriate.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
  • Required to sit for extended periods.
  • May occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision.

Pay

Annual starting salary range of $49,500 to $55,000, depending on skills, qualifications, degrees, certifications, prior job experience, training, and other relevant factors.
