About the Role

The Head Freshman Girls Volleyball Coach will play a vital role in introducing student-athletes to the program, establishing foundational skills, and setting the standard for culture, work ethic, and team expectations. This position is critical for preparing players for future success at the JV and varsity levels.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of the Freshman Girls Volleyball team, including practices, matches, and team management.
  • Teach and reinforce fundamental volleyball skills, including passing, serving, attacking, and basic systems of play.
  • Create a structured, organized, and positive practice environment focused on learning and improvement.
  • Establish clear expectations for effort, behavior, and team standards.
  • Help student-athletes build confidence, resilience, and a strong work ethic.
  • Align with JV and Varsity coaches to ensure consistency in terminology, systems, and program values.
  • Communicate effectively with players, families, and the athletic department.
  • Encourage multi-sport participation and support the overall student-athlete experience.
  • Assist with program-wide initiatives such as youth clinics, camps, and offseason development when appropriate.

Requirements

  • Playing experience at the high school or collegiate level is strongly preferred.
  • Prior coaching experience is helpful but not required; a willingness to learn and grow as a coach is essential.
  • Strong understanding of volleyball fundamentals and basic game strategy.
  • Ability to connect with and motivate high school student-athletes.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and development-focused team environment.
  • Alignment with the mission and values of Cranbrook Schools.

A strong teacher who enjoys developing athletes, passionate about creating a positive first experience in high school athletics, patient, encouraging, and detail-oriented in teaching fundamentals, a clear communicator who builds trust with students and families, aligned with a program-first philosophy, and eager to collaborate with other coaches.
