Qualifications

  • Valid Connecticut coaching certification or temporary emergency coaching permit.
  • Updated first aid/CPR training approved by Connecticut State Department of Education.
  • Knowledge and background in the assigned sport.

Primary Function

To carry out the aims and objectives of the sport program as outlined by the head coach.

Major Duties And Responsibilities

  • Assists the head coach in carrying out his/her responsibilities.
  • Accounts for and assists the head coach in the issuing, collection, and storage of all equipment.
  • Responsible for knowing and abiding by existing state and league regulations.
  • Assists the head coach and athletic director in scheduling contests and practices.
  • Ensures proper safeguards for maintaining and protecting assigned equipment sites.
  • Prepares for and adheres to scheduled sport events and practices.
  • Makes recommendations to the head coach for awards.
  • Recommends budgetary items for next year in his/her area of the program.
  • Aids the head coach in explaining team's training rules, "Code of Conduct", as stated in the student-athlete handbook, CIAC eligibility rules, and procedures for participation in athletics to all members of the team.
  • Has thorough knowledge and implements policies and procedures in the student-athlete handbook.
  • Safeguards, maintains cleanliness, and monitors athletes in all athletic work areas.
  • Understands proper administrative line of command and refers all student and parent requests or grievances through proper channels.
  • Does not criticize, admonish, or argue with the head coach or any staff member in the presence of players or parents.
  • Responsible for the actions and conduct of the athletes whenever they are under his/her jurisdiction.
  • Responsible for the general health and welfare of students in his/her sport and gives appropriate attention to athletes who are injured, ill, or otherwise incapacitated.
  • Attends all staff meetings and carries out scouting assignments as outlined by the head coach.
  • Instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care, and use.
  • Aids the head coach in maintaining necessary paperwork, such as attendance records, inventory of uniforms and equipment, parent permission forms, etc.
